Job description:
- Provide effective, efficient and professional pre-hospital primary care treatment and transportation via ground ambulance;
- evaluate and monitor the patient’s conditions and provide lifesaving medical interventions;
- facilitate ground transport and pre-hospital medical care for patients who require both emergency and non-emergency transportation between healthcare facilities or institutions providing long-term care;
- operate emergency response vehicles safely;
- communicate effectively, appropriately and sensitively with other members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team, patients, clients, bystanders, physicians and other healthcare professionals while maintaining composure and respecting confidentiality;
- maintain thorough, comprehensive and ethical written records;
- maintain up-to-date knowledge of the field;
- participate in orientation, mentoring and education of new staff members and paramedic students, as well as with community outreach programs, facility tours and public relations opportunities; and
- may assist with Protective Services programs throughout the Yukon as part of an integrated disaster response model.

Job requirements:
- Current primary care paramedic (PCP) license or equivalent;
- vulnerable sector RCMP security clearance;
- medical clearance;
- CPR-HCP, current valid certification; and
- valid Class 4 driver’s license.
The position requires travel across Yukon, shift work including weekends, and standby.
Branch profile/spotlight
Yukon’s Emergency Medical Services (YEMS) team, part of the Community and Primary Care Division, delivers a wide scope of pre-hospital care across the Yukon, with over 200 team members who work out of 17 ambulance stations in 16 communities. The group consists of:
- dispatchers;
- a land ambulance team of primary care paramedics (PCP), advanced care paramedics (ACP), and community-based emergency medical responders (EMR);
- an air ambulance team of critical care paramedics – medevac (CCP-Medevac) and flight nurses; and
- support staff that includes administration, fleet and logistical support and clinical educators.
