What we do:
- Utilize the APIED (Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation and Documentation) process to reach resident goals that improve quality of life;
- work in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team including recreation therapy assistants and volunteers; and
- plan and facilitate programs to meet individual and group leisure goals.
Job description:
- Review charts and records, consults with other disciplines, selects and develops appropriate intervention programs based on recreation therapy assessments as part of the interdisciplinary team;
- documents assessment findings, analysis, treatment rationale for action taken and resident/client response to treatment in resident record and/or care conferences and communicates with the interdisciplinary team regarding resident progress;
- plans, develops, implements, delivers and evaluates clinical programs and treatment on an ongoing basis to enhance quality of life;
- trains and directs recreation therapy assistants (including students) to perform and deliver recreation therapy programs and support duties;
- provides education and information on recreational therapy goals and interventions to residents, families and other members of the care team;
- advocates residents’ and family needs and encourages resident/family involvement;
- organizes and promotes residents’ use of community resources (i.e., community agencies, library, Canada Games Centre); and
- leads the development and review of recreation programs, processes, procedures and program descriptions and submits recommendations to the manager of Therapeutic Services for changes in services and staffing.

Job requirements:
- Degree from an accredited Recreation Therapy Program, or equivalency:
- membership with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation certification and current CTRS certification;
- Class 4 driver’s license;
- CRP and AED;
- WHMIS;
- Food Safe;
- criminal records check with vulnerable sector; and
- TB Screening
