What we do
In this role, you’ll take on a variety of important tasks, including floor care, general cleaning, sanitizing, snow clearing and identifying maintenance or safety issues. This position helps to ensure government facilities and their surroundings are well-maintained and uphold safety standards.
Job description:
• Perform a variety of light cleaning duties in government-owned facilities and grounds across the Yukon (e.g. cleaning washrooms, dusting, vacuuming carpets, washing walls, removing garbage, snow and ice removal);
• periodically perform heavy cleaning duties throughout facilities and grounds (e.g. steam cleaning carpets, stripping and polishing floors) and conduct minor maintenance and repair duties (e.g. changing lights, unplugging sinks, toilets, replacing ceiling tiles, etc.) to ensure the functionality and upkeep of buildings and grounds;
• report maintenance, and safety issues;
• participate in special cleaning projects as requested;
• adhere to safety protocols, particularly when handling cleaning chemicals, to maintain a safe working environment;
• monitor and ensure that facilities are secure and safe during unoccupied hours; and
• participate in the moving of furniture to set up facilities for activities.
Training
We offer training and development opportunities for cleaning attendants within Highways and Public Works. This includes on-the-job training to master cleaning techniques and safety procedures. Employees have access to workshops and courses to enhance their skills in maintenance tasks and occupational safety. • Obtain and maintain RCMP vulnerable sector check security clearance before hire; and
