What we do:
- Provide direct, comprehensive primary health care services to Yukoners in a range of programs, with a variety of health care needs;
- work within the full scope of legislated practice including diagnosis, ordering and interpreting tests, prescribing and monitoring pharmaceuticals, and performing specific procedures; and
- collaborate within interdisciplinary health care teams that include physicians, registered nurses, medical office assistants and other social and allied health professionals.
Job description:
- Nurse practitioners autonomously provide primary and specialized care independently, or as a part of inter-disciplinary teams. They perform health assessments, formulate diagnoses, order and interpret lab and diagnostic tests, develop and monitor therapeutic management including pharmacologic management and engage in health promotion and illness/ injury prevention;
- perform health assessments on clients, ranging from birth to death, while taking into consideration culturally relevant and appropriate approaches. Support clients with health issues ranging from simple to complex and acute to chronic in nature. Retain sole responsibility for assessment, diagnosis, monitoring, and therapeutic management decisions. Integrates evidence-based nursing, medicine, and critical inquiry into practice. Treatments may include novel therapies such as safer supply of opioids and gender-affirming care;
- diagnose diseases, disorders, injuries and conditions, and communicates with clients about health assessment findings, including outcomes and prognosis. Provide counselling and education to clients/patients/residents and their families or substitute decision makers;
- initiate timely and appropriate consultation, referrals and collaboration with other health-care providers for continuity, and when diagnosis or therapeutic management exceeds personal, professional, or employer scope of practice; ensuring accurate documentation in accordance with the program area policies;
- act as mentor, preceptor, coach or role model for nurse practitioner students, nursing and allied health colleagues; and
- adhere to program area policy and participates in strategic planning and policy and procedure development.

Job requirements:
- Either registered or eligible to be registered as a nurse practitioner in good standing with the Yukon Registered Nurses Association;
- recently applied knowledge of nursing theory, practices and techniques;
- vulnerable sector RCMP security clearance;
- WHMIS 2015 (within 1 month of hire); and
- TB screening.
