What we do:
- Provide residents with rehabilitation programs and activities to enhance, maintain, improve, or restore their abilities to participate in meaningful activities;
- work as part of the multi-disciplinary care team under the direction of a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and speech-language pathologist; and
- work guided by the philosophy of care, policies, procedures, guidelines and standards of practice to ensure that clients/residents feel a sense of belonging and receive best-practice care.
Job description:
- Contributes to therapeutic interventions and education to assist individuals in slowing decline, improving or maintaining independence and quality of life. This may include assisting individuals to attend rehabilitation programs in the community, which involves driving a government vehicle;
- works under the direction of the occupational therapist, physiotherapist or speech-language pathologist by:
o demonstrating and providing instructions to individuals on the use of prescribed equipment and devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, braces, or hearing aids;
o promoting individual and provider safety in the provision of all services, including safely operating all equipment, applying best practice body mechanics, following established procedures regarding contraindications, treatment precautions and safety factors associated with treatment interventions;
o coordinating rehabilitation equipment including: maintaining and organizing inventory, tracking loans, completing installations, cleaning and disinfecting, completing mechanical checks, analyzing issues and completing minor repairs. Contact vendors to address major repairs;
o employing effective and appropriate verbal, non-verbal, written and electronic communication with residents and members of the care team. Documenting in the health records and communicating any changes in status to the supervising therapist. May attend care conferences;
o contributing to the implementation of rehabilitation services within Continuing Care by establishing priorities for caseload management, managing workload statistics and participating in quality improvement projects; and
o providing staff education or training on various subjects related to rehabilitation. - develops, builds and maintains collaborative working relationships through effective communication with clients and the health care team, contributes to case planning to meet the needs of residents and contributes to relevant team meetings and committees;
- demonstrates effective problem-solving skills and judgement related to assigned aspects of service delivery; and
- prepares for group intervention programs by arranging space, collaborating with the care team to encourage attendance, and preparing materials and equipment related to the intervention.

Job requirements:
- Occupational therapy assistant (OTA) or physiotherapy assistant (PTA) diploma from an accredited Canadian program;
- recent and relevant demonstrated experience providing direct patient care duties;
- experience providing treatment under the direction of a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, or speech-language pathologist in either a community environment or a long-term care setting would be an asset;
- TB screening;
- vulnerable sector RCMP security clearance;
- Food Safe level 1 (completed within the last 2 years);
- WHMIS 2015;
- CPR level C AED – Heart Saver; and
- valid Class 5 driver's license.
