Job requirements
The requirements differ depending on the nature of the social work role:
- Degree in social work (for most positions), or
- degree in counselling, psychology, or social sciences (accepted for roles within mental wellness and substance use services);
- to be either registered or eligible to be registered as a social worker in Canada (for roles in long-term care, palliative care and home care);
- vulnerable sector RCMP security clearance;
- WHMIS 2015 (within 1 month of hire); and
- TB screening (for roles in health settings).
Branch profile/spotlight
Health and Social Services (HSS) is the department that meets the needs of Yukon residents along the lifespan, from prenatal support though to services for seniors and end of life care. HSS programs include medical travel, insured health, community nursing, social supports, midwifery, chronic conditions supports, mental wellness and substance use services, emergency services, as well as other programs that support the health and wellbeing of all residents. HSS offers services via offices or clinics in Whitehorse and hubs in the many Yukon communities.
